Reginald “Reggie“ Robinson entered the dojo in 1996 and currently holds a yondan (”4th degree black belt”). An experienced martial artist, he is also a law professor and is currently tenured as a Professor of Law at Howard University. He has traveled the nation, invited to profess law to various colleges and universities. He is passionate about Aikido, and its ability to create a place for the mutual exchange of body, speech, and mind.
He started martial arts when he was 18 years old in 1973, starting with Northern Shaolin Wushi (Michael X Knight), and studied in Kyoshinkan under Darryl ”Tornado” Williams. He has also studied Xian Pei Gung Fu, Hung Gar, Wing Chung, Tai Chi, Karate, and Tae Kwon Do.
He currently teaches the foundational courses in Business Law like Agency, Partnerships, LLC, and private and publicly traded corporations.
Reggie is a father, serves on the ASD Board of Directors, and an instructor in ASD.
Law History
Reggie was born and raised in NYC, where he lived until he left permanently in 1978. It was in the city that Reggie started studying martial arts, while later attending Borough of Manhattan Community College. He left NYC to attend Fayetteville State University, and then he attended Howard University, where he earned his B.A., graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, then The University of Chicago, where he earned his Master’s Degree, and after a year at Yale University, where he was an Exchange Scholar in Economics and Political Science, and The University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his J.D., Cum Laude.
After practicing law for approximately two years, he earned law teaching in 1991, beginning at Whittier College School of Law. In the fall 1993, he was a visiting Associate Professor of Law at the University of San Francisco, and in spring 1994, he visited at the University of Connecticut. In fall 1994, he joined the Law Faculty at Howard University, where he has since become a tenured Professor of Law. In 2007 to 2008, he was the Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law and Critical Theory at the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Reggie has published more than 20 law review articles, where of late has focused on childhood abuse, neglect, and trauma within the black family through the substantive lens of social neurobiology, interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, critical theory, sociology, history, and child welfare law.
